HI! I'm M.P.Sugitha
I am M. P. Sugitha. My Parents are Mr. R. Mohan and Ms. M. Pragatha. I have an elder brother, Mr. M. P. Sujit (19) who is studying in a College and I have a grandmother whose name is Ms. R. Jayalakshmi (60).
I was born on 24th September, 2008 and I am currently studying 11th Standard in St. Joseph's Anglo Indian Girls Higher Secondary School, Melapudur, Tiruchirapalli - 620 001.
I attended a Silambam competition held at Trichy along with my Father in 2018 by which I got very much influenced towards Silambam and I have been learning it for the past six years enthusiastically. I have overcome my tiredness on several occasions in order to achieve my physical fitness in Silambam.
It was somewhat difficult for me to concentrate on both Silambam and Studies but the encouragement I got from my family members, teachers and friends have helped me a lot to achieve success surprisingly.
I have realised that many students in government schools are not able to celebrate happy occasions like Diwali and Pongal. Keeping this in my mind, my respected father and myself have been donating new dresses to some 100 students every year from 2019 which is really a God given gift to me.
I have also thought of destitute persons who are dwelling in road sides. They suffer in both summer and winter seasons. Keeping this situation in my mind, my father and myself have been donating bed sheets to some 100 persons in winter seasons and Chappals and Visiri during summer seasons and sweets during festivals and we have been donating Rs. 100 to each of them which have been my source of pleasure indeed for the past four years.
We prepared food and served many roadside dwellers during covid -19 pandemic. My father and grandmother also got infected by the corona virus and were admitted in a hospital for about two weeks. They suffered a lot and got recovered by God's grace. I then realised that money alone cannot save lives and it is through charity that our lives are saved.
Keeping this in my mind, I have been saving the amount given to me by my parents and the gift amount in order to help the needy. I wrote a request letter to Mr. M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Mr. Siva. V. Meyyanathan, the then Sports Development Minister to enrol Silambam in government Employability Schemes. This news was reported in a leading Tamil Newspaper that made me feel very happy.
My request was considered and the Chief Minister announced 3% for Silambam in the legislative assembly. I thanked the then Sports Development Minister, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, School Education Minister and Mr. Iniko Iruthaya Raj, East Constituency Assembly Member for their kind gestures. My congratulating message to Mr. Udayanithi Stalin on becoming the Sports Minister was reported in the news paper on 16-12-2023 which i felt an honour in fact.
In addition to Silambam, I showed additional interest in Rifle Shooting and have been getting regular training in it for the past two years to bring laurels to my Proud Nation, Tamil Nadu.
I am happy to share that I received a certificate of appreciation from Mr. M. Pradeep Kumar, Collector of Tiruchirapalli district in the 75th Independence on 15-08-2023. I then received the Kalai Ilamani Award on 21-10-2022 for making achievements via competitions in Silambam.
I also received the 'State Award for Girl Child Empowerment - 2024' by the Sports Minister. I always have pleasure to share that these kinds of encouragement help me to keep on doing social services for everyone's upliftment.
‘Helping other girl children to get Education’
I acted as a Chief Guest in a program called 'Revival of rural Games' at Oonaiyur and involved the school students there in traditional games like Gilli, Pambaram, Tyre Vandi, Thayam, Pallanguli and Kallangai. All of them became very playful. I also pinpointed them the need of the education to bring a change in the society. I also highlighted the bad effects that mobile phones are making. By the grace of Almighty, i distributed New Clothes, Sweet and Karam to the school children from my savings and told them that nothing should disturb us from getting educated.
I participated in a car rally program arranged by AURA Organisation, Tiruchy as a special invitee and started the rally for women on 03-12-2023. I then presented the prizes to the winners for which I was honoured 'The Young Achiever Award' which is really an excellent celebration.
Dr. Ira. Achuthan, Professor and Senior Scientist was given in charge in the selection process for Korean Tamil Association Awards 2023 towards the social services. In this regard, I got the 'Social Worker Award' on 11-12-2023 from the President of Korean Tamil Association. I have inherited a strong belief from my pious parents that we should be the reason for someone's happiness and in no way we should be the reason for someone's unhappiness.
I also learnt from my parents that God loves those who love others and God helps those who help others.
‘Outstanding / Unique Achievements in other fields’
I am happy that I have donated some 400 blankets in the past four years to the needy and destitute persons who are dwelling in the road sides that too in the winter season particularly in Margali Month.
I have also donated Sandals and Visiri to some 200 persons who happen to suffer in Summer seasons. I have made it a point to celebrate happy occasions like Diwali with poor and destitute persons which, I consider, is the secret of all my success.
I understand that feeding a hungry person is the greatest help ever. In this aspect, I have been donating food to as many persons as possible with the strong support of my beloved parents. I have felt very happy to associate myself in the company of the road dwellers.
I pray to Almighty God that a disease like Corona should not be borne again. Helping people in their critical times is what makes us human beings, I have analysed. In Covid 19, I was very particular to serve the society by food, Sanitizer and Masks many in number.
I am thankful to the Government of Tamil Nadu for the initiatives it took towards the healthcare of every individual during corona pandemic. I am fortunate to donate some amount from my humble savings to Dr. Inigo Irudaya Raj towards Chief Minister Relief Fund.
I received 'Mathare T20 award' by Karpaga Vinayaha College, Chennai towards my social services and achievements in Silambam on 24-02-2023.
This is my another adventure that I donated books worth Rs. 10,000 to the inmates of Tiruchy Central Prison from my savings through Mr. Thirumurugan, Prison Manager on 03-02-2023.
This is something interesting that reading moral books does wonders and brings sincere changes in our lives. I also have a habit of encouraging my student friends to help the needy to lead a meaningful life. I value the saying of our father of the nation, Mahathma Gandhi, that 'The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others'.
‘Women also can serve the society as men do.’
I have been involving myself in Silambam, a traditional art of Tamil Nadu, from 2019 winning awards in State, National and International forums. By God's grace, I have created new world records in silambam in the world record books of USA, Canada, England, Dubai, Malaysia, Asia and India. I have participated in International level competitions in countries like Singapore and Malaysia in 2019. Mr. Venkaiyah Naidu, the then Vice President of India appreciated me for my earnest efforts.
I was awarded 'Singai Singapore pen Award' in 2019 in Singapore Tamil Association, Singapore for my outstanding achievements.
I received the Pioneer Woman Award from Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli on the Women's Day Celebration. I had the privilege to receive the 'Olirum Min Mini Award ' by Nehru Yuva Kendra from Dr. V. Jayapal, GVN Hospital on the Children's Day function on 14-11-2021.
I was given 'UKQAS Junior Excellence Award' in Trichy by UK Qualifications, Assessments and Skills, England on 05-01-2022 for my performance at Silambam.
I received 'Exceptional Talent Award' at Dubai from Dubai Attitude Association from the renowned Tamil Speaker Dr. Parveen Sulthana towards my humble achievements in Silambam.
I received an award from the honorable School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi called 'Excellence Award for Great thinkers in Tiruchy District ' on 24-09-2023 organized by Tiruchy Mail News paper.
I received a cash award of Rs. One Lakh and 'Pen Kulanthai Munnetrathirkana Maanila Virudu 2024' from the honorable Sports Minister Mr. Udayanithi Stalin for my social services, social awareness, imparting knowledge among girl children, helping the needy and destitute people.
I have the pleasure of having registered a 'Veera Mangai Velu Natchiyar Elaiyor Nala Sangam' Youth Club where some 50 dedicated persons work for social causes. The Association I have registered comes under Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Tiruchirapalli.
I feel glad to apply for Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2025 as it will be an added strength for me to become a wholesome personality indeed. I owe all the appreciations I have received in my life to my pioneer parents who are the back bones of all my ventures and adventures.
I also recall all the hearty care and support of all my talented Teachers, Relatives, Neighbours and Friends in serving the society in all possible ways.
I am confident to fit myself physically, mentally and morally to keep on working hard for the strength of my nation.
I get motivated to read the lines of the great English Poet Robert Frost that ‘I have miles to go before I sleep
I have miles to go before I sleep.’
Thank You.
My Awards
Community Contribution
While participating as a special invitee in rural schools such as Unaiyur and Poonampalayam and many other government schools, I have been highlighting the need for students to play their favorite sport around and tught Silambam in a way that enhances their interest during those Silambam training.
I also convinced that the heroic game of Silambam, the symbol of Tamil, can be achieved irrespective of age.
Future plan
I am committed to spread about Silambam all over the world and continuing many new world records in Silambam worldwide and for the past one year I have been providing free Silambam training to students over the age of 6 to 25 years on the advice of my Silamba teacher Mr. M. Jayakumar. I would like to inform them that I will strive to accumulate many achievements and successes in the Silambam game.
